Justice Komba Kamanda of the High Court in Freetown has yesterday called on lawyers at the Legal Aid Board to provide legal representation for one Amira Cole, who is standing trial before him for the offence of wounding with intent.

He ordered the Court’s Registrar to inform the Board and other advocacy lawyers to take up the matter with immediate effect, before he adjourned the trial to 1st November, 2016.

The accused is standing trial for a count’s charge of wounding with intent, punishable under the Offence Against the Persons Act of 1861.

The prosecution alleges that the accused maliciously and deliberately wounded Samuel Cole on 2nd September, 2015.

However, she has been in detention since the commencement of her trial at the Magistrates’ Court.

The accused is a mother of a six months old baby that was delivered at the Female Correctional Centre in Freetown.

Meanwhile, Justice Kamanda granted bail to the accused in the sum of Le30 million Leones plus one surety in like sum, but she failed to fulfill the bail condition.
