Sierra Leone drops in latest FIFA ranking

Sierra Leone national team, Leone Stars, has dropped four places down in the latest ranking released by the world football governing body FIFA on Thursday.

The country dropped five place down in the October ranking from 88 position in August to 93rd place in September, and now in the October classification, the country move further down in the world status to 97th position.

According to statistics released by FIFA, despite Sierra Leone not playing a single match since they last played against Ivory Coast during the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, the country secured a total of 352 points – that is, losing 20 points from the September rankings.

Also the country makes further drop in the African ranking moving down from 25 places to 26th position, and now sit below Kenya, Equatorial Guinea, Togo, former African champion Zambia and Mozambique respectively.

Meanwhile, African champions, Cote d’Ivoire are still the highest ranked team in the continent, moving up three places to the 31st position on the global ranking.

Ghana now ranked fifth behind Cote d’ivoire (31st), Senegal (37th), Algeria (35th) and Tunisia (38th) respectively.

Elsewhere, Germany and Brazil moved closer to No. 1 side Argentina in the world rankings as Belgium dropped out of the top three for the first time in 19 months. France and leapfrog Euro 2016 winners Portugal into seventh place and Spain replace Wales in 10th spot.
