The bigamy matter between the State and Alie Kabbah was on Wednesday adjourned when Principal State Prosecutor Gerard Soyie made an application for one more adjournment to enable them close their case.

Although Soyie could not provide further reasons for the adjournment, presiding judge, Justice Miatta Samba granted the application and adjourned the matter to Wednesday, 19 October, 2016.

Lead defence counsel for the opposition politician, Francis Ben Kaifala Esq., during the last hearing in August made an application in respect of leave for his client to travel to the United States for routine medical checkup.

Justice Mattia Samba granted the application, thus allowing Mr. Kabbah to leave the jurisdiction for medical checkup.

Mr. Kabbah, who is one of many contenders for position of standard bearer for the opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party in the 2018 presidential election, was reported to the police in 2015 by his former wife, Lands Minister Diana Konomanyi, alleging bigamy.

He denies the charges, referring to them as politically motivated.
