Principal Magistrate at the Freetown Magistrates’ Court No.1, Dr. Abou Bhakarr Binneh-Kamara, yesterday remanded one Fatmata Mateneh Mansaray at the Female Correctional Centre in Freetown after she was arraigned for kidnapping, contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.
The prosecution alleges that the accused on 2nd September, 2016 at Mongagba Village in the Freetown peninsular kidnapped one Amida Sesay, a two-month-old child.
According to police facts in the court charge sheet, Aminata Bangura, who identified herself to the police as mother of the victim, said she came to know the accused through one of her friends, Isatu Sesay.
Ms. Bangura told the court the accused used to pay her frequent visits and that on the day of the incident, the former visited her as she about performing her Friday prayers.
She said she decided to leave the baby at home because it was crying and didn’t want her to disturb during prayer time at the mosque, adding that she left the baby at home in the care of the accused and that upon her return from the masque, both the baby and accused were not at home.
She said she then reported the incident to the police.
Magistrate Dr. Binneh-Kamara adjourned the matter to 14th October, 2016.
