The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Sports Director Lubomir Kotlema arrived in Freetown on Wednesday, 21 September, for a day’s official assessment visit in Sierra Leone.

According to President of Sierra Leone National Basketball Association (SLNBA) Joseph Nyande,  Kotlema’s mission is to conduct a review and assessment of the current state of affairs of basketball in the country.

He said Kotlema, who doubles as advisor to FIBA secretary general, will also meet with stakeholders in sports, including the ministry and national sports council officials.

“Kotlema will meet all stakeholders in Sierra Leone, such as the SLNBA executive members, Sierra Leone National Olympic Committee (NOC-SL), the National Sports Council (NSC), basketball coaches, referees and players.

“It is expected that after his mission, the Sierra Leone Basketball Association will be guided by FIBA in terms of development of the game in the country. His mission will also help FIBA in formulating strategies for the development and support of National Federations,” Nyande said.

The FIBA Sports Director had also visited The Gambia in April 2015 and Somalia in May 2015 on a similar assignment.
