Liberia turns down SLFA venue request

The Liberia Football Association (LFA) has turned down a request from the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) to use the Antoinette Tubman Stadium or the Samuel Kanyon Doe complex in Monrovia for their U-23 Rio 2016 Olympic Games qualifiers.
The decision by the LFA came after Liberia recently recorded new Ebola cases just months after they were declared an Ebola free state.
Sierra Leone is still seeking a venue for their home matches and it is expected to host the young Fennecs of Algeria on the weekend of July 31-August 2 in Monrovia, but the latest development has forced the SLFA to use Algeria as their home ground.
According to SLFA media officer, Abu Bakarr Kamara, the LFA has informed them they cannot accommodate the team after the Liberian government failed to grant such permit because of the reported new cases of Ebola in that country.
He said: “We are now using Algeria as our home ground for the return leg but we hope to use Monrovia in the later stage of the qualifiers if the situation in the country remains the same.”
