…As he declares for SLPP National Secretary General

August 25, 2016 By Abu-bakarr Sheriff

As the opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) prepares to elect new national executive officers ahead of crucial elections in 2018, a formidable candidate has thrown his heart into the ring for the enviable position of National Secretary General.

Mohamed Rahman Swaray yesterday made his intention known to party stalwarts and supports at the party’s Unity Hall in Freetown.

Swaray, who is fondly known across the country as ‘Rado’, exuded confidence, donning navy blue suit and light green necktie, as he outlined his 10 point victory plan, which according to him “would hold the APC’s fingers to fire in these terminal days of its regime.”

The experienced administrator and public relations practitioner told pressmen and party supporters that if elected Secretary General, he would set in motion a 10 point programme of action that would serve as catalyst to return the party to power.

He outlined his 10 blueprint as follows: development of a high integrity database; women’s empowerment; peace, unity and reconciliation; fund raising and accountability; party image management; restoration of party’s values; opposition–government relations; operationalisation of party branches across the country; respect, recognition and reward of hard working party members; and mobilization and co-ordination of party professionals.

The youthful Secretary General aspirant told his audience he had been an active member of the opposition party since 1991, adding that he had assiduously and selflessly worked for both party and country in the years leading to the restoration of democracy and constitutional rule.

He boosted that he would bring with him “an integrity of gold” to lead by example a secretariat that needs fresh and revitalised blood to return the opposition party to power, a little over 10 years after it lost the mandate to govern.

He described his campaign as one without borders that would embrace all individuals vying to lead the party in the 2018 presidential elections. “I have no preference for candidate in the flag bearer race, but I believe in democracy – free and fair process,” he maintained and added “for me, the process is as important as the outcome.”

Mr. Swaray holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Political Science from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, and an MBA from the University of Westminster Business School in London, United Kingdom.

He has a wealth of experience in both the aviation and mining sectors, spanning almost two decades. He is happily married with three children.
