Presiding Magistrate at the Freetown Magistrates’ Court No.1, Dr. Abou Bakarr Benneh-Kamara, yesterday ordered that Chief Mennah Sesay, Lansana Bayoh Sesay, and Musa Kabia be remanded at Male and Female Correctional Centres in Freetown, after they were arraigned for assault.

The accused persons pleaded not guilty to three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, contrary to section 47 of the Offences against the Persons Act of 1861, and public insult and provocation, contrary to Section 2 of the Public Order Act.

According to the prosecution, the accused persons on Wednesday, 22 June, 2016 assaulted one Murray Turay in a manner that resulted to actual bodily harm at No.2 Molta Street in Freetown.

The prosecution further alleges that first accused Lansana Bayoh Sesay on the same date, in the view of the public, used certain insulting words against complainant Murray Turay at the same address, in such a manner that would have provoked  him to breech public  peace.

They were refused bail despite an application by their defence counsel.

The matter continues.
