Sierra Leone’s America-based sprinter, Hafsatu Kamara, on Wednesday, 3 August landed at the Galeão International Airport in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Kamara, who travelled from the United States, arrived in the early hours of Wednesday to join three other athletes at the Games village ahead of the opening ceremony at the legendary Maracanã Stadium on Friday, 5 August.
The 100-metre sprinter, together with home-based youngster Ishmail Dudu Kamara, will put on the national colours at the Olympic Stadium in the 100 metres, while Bunturabie Jalloh and Osman Kamara will battle against others at the all-new Olympic Aquatics Stadium, Maria Lenk Aquatics Centre.
In related development, the second and final batch of Sierra Leone’s delegation to this year’s Games arrived at the Galeão International Airport on Wednesday.
The five-man delegation includes Minister of Sports, Ahmed Khanou, President and Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone (NOC-SL), Dr. Patrick Coker and Joseph Nyande, respectively.
Both the Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone (SWASAL) Secretary General, Sahr Morris Jr. and ace sports producer and presenter of ‘Spectacular Sports Show’ at Kalleone Radio, Abu Bakarr Kanu, who also doubles as the station manager, were among the delegation that landed in Rio on board Royal Air Maroc.
The delegation was received by the country’s Chef d’ Mission, Unisa Deen Kargbo, and his support staff, and following immigration and security checks, Kargbo did a short briefing with the arriving team before they were conveyed to their respective hotels.
