Mayor of Rio welcomes Team Sierra Leone to Games Village

The Mayor of Rio De Janeiro, Eduardo da Costa Paes, accompanied by other officials on Thursday, 4 August, around 20:00 pm (Brazilian time) officially welcomed Team Sierra Leone to the Games Village of the Summer Rio Olympics.

Each team from the 206 countries was welcomed to the Village in a special ceremony led by the Village Chieftains as well as athletes and officials of the countries.

According to Sierra Leone’s Chef d Mission, Unisa Deen Kargbo, the welcome ceremony was a key occasion for athletes, team officials and their guests. He said the ceremony acknowledges their journey to the Games and marks the start of their residency in the Village.

“The brief but impressive ceremony will celebrate the Sierra Leone heritage and culture. The Green, White, Blue flag would be raised and the national anthem played,” he said.

President of the National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone (NOC-SL), Dr. Patrick Coker, Sports Minister Ahmed Khanou, and other Sierra Leonean officials will be present at the event.
