Sierra Leone’s second delegation to this year’s Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil, departed the country’s shores onboard Royal Air Maroc early Wednesday.
The delegation includes President of National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone (NOC-SL) Dr. Patrick Coker and his General Secretary Joseph Nyande, Minister of Sports Ahmed khanou, and Assistant Director of Sports, Shamsu Mustapha.
Also in the delegation are two sports journalist, Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone (SWASAL) Secretary General, Sahr Morris Jr., and Kalleone Radio’s ace sports presenter and Station Manager, Abu Bakar Kanu.
Prior to their departure, the officials bade farewell to President Ernest Bai Koroma, and used the opportunity to present all the Olympic gears the team will be using at the games.
A week earlier, a team of three athletes – Bunturabie Jalloh, Ishmeal Dudu Kamara and Osman Kamara – together with four officials: Pamela Williams, the Chaperone, Bobson Mansaray, the Swimming Coach, Joseph Lahai, the Athletics Coach, and Magdalene S. Konneh, a journalist, had departed for the games to get acclimatisation with the Brazilian weather and training session.
According to the Minister of Sports, team Sierra Leone and delegation to the Games were fully sponsored by the government.
The Olympic Games will commence on 5 August and end on the 21st.
