Sierra Leonean midfielder, Alfred ‘Zagalo’ Sankoh, last Friday signed a one-year deal with Turkish second tier side Denizlispor for an undisclosed fee.

The 27-year-old midfielder joined the TFF First division club as a free agent, after the termination of his contract with another first division side Balıkesirspor on mutual consent at the end of last season.

The Sierra Leone international became the green and black second foreign transfer this summer since the Turkish FA lifted their transfer ban, and in a statement confirming Sankoh’s deal, the club posted in all of their official social network sites:

“Denizlispor has signed Sierra Leonean footballer Alfred Sankoh with a 1-year contract. The midfielder previously played in Şanlıurfaspor’ and also had a total of 21 games with Balıkesirspor last season.”

In an exclusive interview with Concord Sports after the deal was done, the former Strømsgodset midfielder said he was happy with the deal, which saw him turn down several other offers.

“I am very satisfied with the deal and my aim now is to help the team gain promotion in the top flight league. I had a lot of offers abroad, including teams that are playing in the UEFA qualifying, but the offer in Turkey is good for me so I decided to stay,” he said.

Sankoh’s first spell in Turkey was with Şanlıurfaspor, where he played over 60 matches in his two years spell with the club. He later moved to Khazar Lankaran in the Azerbaijan Premier League during the 2014/15 league season, before returning to the Turkish league last season with Balıkesirspor.

The former Old Edwardians midfielder started his professional career in Norway with Strømsgodset in July 2008 and spent four seasons with the Norwegian outfit.
