Sierra Leone national swimming coach, Bobson Mansaray, has intensified his training session ahead of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, which is scheduled for August 5-21.

With barley two weeks to the commencement of the games, Coach Mansaray has increased the training sessions for the country’s two swimming representatives, Osman Kamara and Bunturabie Jalloh.

The duo is expected to compete in the 50m Freestyle race in Rio Games and in order to keep them fit and up to the task in Rio, the swimming coach drafted what he called intensive training drill and competition workout for the Olympic Games.

He said: “The purpose of this is to improve on both swimmers aerobic capacity. The aerobics is a form of physical exercise that combines rhythmic aerobic exercise with stretching and strength training routines with the goal of improving all elements of fitness (flexibility, muscular strength, and cardio-vascular fitness).”

According to Coach Mansaray’s training work plan, the pair will undergo 8×100 meters freestyle, under the kick session they are practicing the 6×150 broken, which includes side kicking with three strokes, side kicking drill with two strokes and stream line lateral kicking.

“Also I designed the drilling session which is 8×100 and under this we have the catch-up drill, stroke count drill, amongst others,” Coach Mansaray said.

It was only last week the Sierra Leone Swimming, Diving and Water Polo Association received an official confirmation from the world swimming governing body, FINA, to compete at the Rio 2016 Games.

Osman Kamara and Bunturabie Jalloh secured qualification after their outstanding performance at the 16th FINA World Swimming Championships in Kazan, Russia, last summer.
