Young Stars male and female Volleyball teams continue to maintain their dominance in the ongoing Western Area Inter Club Volleyball Championship as they registered another win last Saturday over Super Six at the National Stadium volleyball court in Freetown.
Dubbed as the tournament’s favourites, Young Stars continued to show their strength in the court. Their female team started the day with a hard fought win over their Super Six opponent, despite missing few key players from the squad.
The Stars registered a 25-20 win in the opening set but could not dwell on the success as they dropped the second set 15-25. However, hopes for Super Six to maintain their second set win was dashed as the Stars went on to win the two remaining sets 25-22 and 25-18, with Young Stars securing a 3-1 win over Super Six.
Unlike the female battle, it was a slightly different story in the male contest with so much tension and pressure ahead of the kick-off.
Super Six were hoping to replicate last weekend’s 3 sets to zero win over Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), but Young Stars vital players – Patrick Lombi and Abu Bakar Kamara – were at the top of their game, smashing and creating vital points to aid the team secure a 3-1 win.
As predicted, the first and second sets went to Young Stars – 25-14, 25-14 – but they were denied a three straight set victory as Super Six bounced back to registered 25-20 win in the third set before Young Stars buried the game with a 25-21 win in the final set.
