…3 discharged!

June 1, 2016 By Hassan Gbassay Koroma

Justice Alusine Sesay, presiding at the Freetown High Court, yesterday discharged three accused persons that were standing trial for the offences of robbery and unlawful cardinal knowledge respectively.

One of the accused persons, Sahr Sandi, was charged with robbery, with the prosecution allegeding that on 17th March 2010 in Freetown, he stole from one Mohamed Koroma the sum of Le2.5 million.

Also, Mohamed Mansaray and Mohamed Bangura where both charged with unlawful carnal knowledge in separate files.

Sandi informed the court that he had been on remand at the male correctional centre on Pademba Road for six years since he was arrested in 2010.

When his matter was mentioned, Director of Public Prosecution Sulaiman Bah told the court he would not lead any evidence against the accused persons and asked that the judge discharge him.

In his advice statement to the trio, Justice Sesay admonished them to eschew any dubious acts that could lead them back to prison, adding that the years on remand were wasted and that they should have better spent it productively.

“I like giving example to a young man that was standing trial before me for the offence of robbery, after spending almost five years at the Pademba Road Correctional Centre I granted him bail and I was later informed that he went and got himself involved in another robbery and unfortunately he was killed, which tells me that when you put them on bail they will go back and repeat the crime,” he said.
