Agnes Mansaray lowers national 800 meters record

Sierra Leone’s Agnes Mansaray on Saturday, 29th May, 2016 once again lowered her own national 800 metres record she set just a week ago, this time by over two-hundredths of second from 2:09.69 to 2:07.53.

The latest result leaves her exclusively as the greatest 800 meters runner in Sierra Leone women’s athletics history.

Mansaray’s outstanding performance earned her a silver medal on Saturday at the Pennsylvania High Schools State Championships as she crossed the finished line with the announcer blared over the intercom that she had not only improved on her personal best but had once again broken the Sierra Leone women’s national record.The day become more remarkable for Mansaray as she and her teammates went on to take the 4×400 metres relay High School State record and shattered it to earn themselves gold medals in the process.

Elsewhere, Mary Foday of Central High School in Maryland finished her high school track and field career at the Maryland High Schools State Championships on Saturday with a gold medal performance in the 100 metres, which she won with a time of 12.30 seconds, a couple of hundredths of a second lower than her personal best which stands at 12.14 seconds.

Mary also competed in the 200 metres where she came in second and took home a silver medal in the process with a time of 25.52 seconds.
