A sexual abuse matter involving an Operational Support Division (OSD) officer, Dauda Koroma, who allegedly had unlawful intercourse with his step-daughter, was yesterday committed to the High Court by Magistrate Dr. Abou Bhakarr Binneh-Kamara for trial.
The accused was charged with one count of sexual penetration contrary to section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act of 2012, which says “A person who engages in an act of sexual penetration with a child commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a term of imprisonment not exceeding 15 years.”
The prosecution had alleged that the accused on 31 March, 2016 at Rogbangba Village, Hasting, had unlawful sexual intercourse with his step-daughter, aged 12.
Magistrate Dr. Binneh-Kamara said the prosecution had called two witnesses to testify in the matter, adding that he was satisfied that the prosecution had led sufficient evidence against the accused to warrant a committal to the High Court.
The accused though pleaded not guilty of the offence and stated his intent to call witnesses and lead evidence in the upper court.
The matter was prosecuted by Sergeant 922 John Dumbuya.
