One Jenner David Koroma was yesterday remanded at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road for allegedly obtained property worth Le145m by means of fraud form a certain David Isirajie.
The accused was arraigned at the Freetown Magistrates’ Court No.1, presided over by Magistrate Dr. Abou Bhakarr Binneh-Kamara, on one count of obtaining credit by fraud, other than false pretence, contrary to section 13(1) of the Debtors Act 1869.
According to the particulars of offence, the accused on diverse dates between 20 and 25 February, 2013 at No.26 Garrison Street, incurred a debt or liability to the complainant, who is the chief executive officer of LIKHEOA International Agency, by obtaining credit of assorted computers and accessories, and a coloured printer, to the total sum of Le 145m.
In his testimony, Mr. Isirajie explained to the court how the accused went to his business place on the dates stated above, and took possession of the items mention in the particulars with the intention of supplying same to Njala University on credit, with promise to pay, but failed to do so.
He explained that when the accused failed to return, he went to the Criminal Investigation Department headquarters in Freetown and made a report, adding that a statement was obtained from him subsequently.
The accused was granted bail in the sum of Le200m and two sureties in like sum, with the sureties required to produce their National Passports and a title deed of a house in the Western Area or two bank statements amounting to Le70m, with each surety being a resident of the Western Area.
The matter continues on 14 April.
