Mohamed Koroma,23, was Tuesday hacked to death in Thunder Hill, Kissy, east the capital, Freetown, by unknown people in the community.
The incident, which took place in the early hours of the day, also left one person in a critical condition.
According to Foday Kamara, a friend of the deceased, who was also manhandled by the attackers, they were coming from ‘Faith in Star Bar’ at Low Cost Step, Kissy, on their way home when a group of people approached and asked as to where they were headed at that time of the day. He said they told them they were on their way home, but the group accused them of being thieves and they decided to run.
“I ran immediately to the house of the youth chairman to explain myself, but the chairman was unable to halt them and they started beating me with sticks and cutlass, whiles Mohamed Koroma (deceased) ran to a different destination as he did not know the area properly,” he explained.
Kamara said he was beaten into coma, and only regained consciousness hours later, and made a statement at the Kissy Police Station, plus the address of the deceased.
According to mother of the deceased, Isatu Koroma, her son had sat to his West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and was not a thief.
“I am going to make sure that all those that were involved in the killing of my son will never go free; he was the eldest child out of three,” she stated in tears.
Officers at the Kissy Police Division are investigating the matter.
