As members of the Appointment and Public Service Committee in Parliament yesterday continued to screen presidential nominees to serve in different ministries, the minority leader of the main opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) has cautioned the nominees and members of the public with regards the presentation of their credentials in Parliament.
The proposed Deputy Minister of Information, Cornelius Deveaux presented a scanty document to members of the committee and also failed to attach his senior secondary school certificate and testimonial to ascertain his claim that he attended the Sierra Leone Grammar School.
He claimed that he had lost all those certificates years back and that he could not trace them at the time the committee sent a questionnaire to him.
He further claimed that he had enrolled at Fourah Bay College and the Institute of Public Administration and Management, both constituent colleges of the University of Sierra Leone, but was unable to continue due to lack of resources.
Speaking during the interview session of one of the ten presidential nominees, Hon. Dr. Bernadette Lahai said scanty curriculum vitaes should not be presented to the committee as nominees should always be prepared with academic their papers, whenever they are appointed and due to face Parliament.
“You should always be prepared as an academic person as you might not know when opportunities like this may come your way. Even when you are sleeping it should be with you. You should make sure that you try to replace them as early as possible if lost. Don’t wait until it is needed or requested for,” she cautioned.
The other nominees that were interviewed yesterday include Ady Macauley, proposed Anti-Corruption Commissioner; James Morlai Kamara, proposed Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Technology ll; Adrian Dixon Bella Fofanah, proposed Deputy Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs; Mahmoud Tarawally, proposed Deputy Minister of Lands, Country Planning and the Environment; Elizabeth Mans, proposed Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources; Mohamed Alie Jalloh, proposed Deputy Minister of Transport and Aviation; Zulainatu Cooper, proposed Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation ll; and Alimamy Philip Koroma, Ambassador to the Peoples Republic of China.
