‘Poborsky’ Bangura opens account in China

March 15, 2016 By Sahr Morris Jnr.

Sierra Leonean striker, Mohamed ‘Poborsky’ Bangura, opened his goal scoring account on his debut in the Chinese League One to help his new club Dalian Yifang secure a 2-0 home win against Meizhou Hakka last Saturday.

Sun Bo gave the home side the lead in the 58th minute before the former Celtic and AIK Solna striker sealed the win for Dalian Yifang with his 88 minutes strike.

The goal was Bangura’s first in the blue colours of Dalian Yifang since his December US$1.1 million move from AIK to the Chinese second tier league club.

In the U.S. Major League Soccer (MLS), Columbus Crews SC striker Kei Kamara scored his 75th MLS career goal on Sunday, but his goal was not enough to rescue the Crew from suffering their second defeat in a row.

A brace from Chris Pontius gave Philadelphia Union a 2-0 lead before the Sierra Leonean forward’s 87th-minute goal reduced the deficit. Kei Kamara is now tied with Kenny Cooper on 18th all-time goals in the MLS goal-scoring chart.

Elsewhere, Sullay Kaikai continued his goal scoring form for Shrewsbury Town as he scored the team’s opener in their 2-2 draw against Scunthorpe United.

The 20-year-old, who was substituted in the 76 minutes, is now Shrewsbury Town’s joint top scorer with seven-goals between two spells in 17 appearances.

Defender Alie Sesay continues to enjoy full time action with Barnet as they forced York City to a 1-1 draw.

In the Slovenian PrvaLiga, Gibrilla Julius Woobay’s NK Olimpija Ljubljana were forced to a goalless draw by Celje, while midfielder Rodney Strasser’s NK Zagreb side suffered a 1-0 defeat to Hajduk Split. The Sierra Leone midfielder was cautioned in the 23 minutes.
