The Fourah Bay College (FBC) administration last Friday announced in a press release that all lectures would be suspended for 10 days, beginning today, 14 March to Thursday, 24 March, 2016 to enable students to pay their fees and register for this 2015-2016 academic year.
According to the release, signed by deputy registrar Z.O. Domingo, lectures would resume on 29 March, 2016 and that students should pay at least 50% of their fees before they could be allowed to register, attend lectures and take the first semester examinations.
“All students should have paid their fees and register for the 2014-2015 academic year before they are eligible to pay and register for 2015-2016 academic year. Students are therefore advised to avail yourself of this opportunity to pay and register, as this date will be the end of registration for first semester 2015-2016 academic year and sponsored students are remanded to complete their registration,” the release stated.
On 10 March, some students who were sent out of their classes spontaneously organised a peaceful protest against the college administration and asked that they be given an extended time to pay fees and register for the new academic year.
This may have prompted the administration to extend the period of registration, in a bid to pacify aggrieved students who feel the former does not seek their interest.
