Police tenders murder instrument in court

Exhibit Clerk, Detective Sergeant 1924 Umaru Raymond Mansaray, attached to the Criminal Investigation Department at Lumley Police Station, yesterday tendered in court a lady’s shoe allegedly used to beat the deceased, Sia Nyuma, to death.
While testifying before Magistrate Manuela Harding at the Pademba Road Magistrates’ Court No.2, Sergeant Mansaray told the court that his duties include taking records of all exhibits and tendering them in court.
He said on 7 February, 2016 the scene-of-crime officer, Detective Sergeant 4112 Bakarr Sidiqi Timbo, handed him a lady’s shoe as exhibit. “I took possession of the shoe and registered it in the court exhibit book,” said the witness.
Meanwhile, Detective Sergeant Timbo told the court that on 7 February, he visited an alleged murder crime scene at No.5 Cassava Farm, Juba Hill, where he noticed a disorganised bed and a lady’s shoe lying on the floor.
He added that he took a photograph of the bed and the shoe, which he later printed, with the shoe collected as exhibit.
The witness stated the on 11 February, 2016 he witnessed the postmortem examination of the deceased at the Connaught Hospital mortuary, conducted by consultant pathologist Dr. Simeon Owizz Koroma.
He continued that during the autopsy examination he took series of photos of the deceased, which he later printed and that the pictures have been in his custody.
The pictures were tendered to form part of court’s records.
The accused, Alfred Koroma, was arraigned on one count of murder contrary to law.
According to police prosecutor Inspector Moses Moore, the accused murdered one Sia Nyuma, daughter of late retired Lt. Col. Tom Nyuma, on 7 February, 2016 at their No.5 Cassava Farm, Juba Hill, home.
The matter continues on 9 March, 2016.
