Two years jail term or Le750,000 fine for unlawful possession of cannabis

Magistrate Santigie Bangura of the Pademba Road Magistrates’ Court No.5 last Friday sentenced Mohamed Alie Jalloh and Abdul Sesay to either serve two years jail term or pay a fine of Le750, 000 each, after their conviction for unlawful possession of 18 wraps of cannabis, locally known as ‘Jamba’.

The duo were arraigned on two counts of unlawful possession of cannabis-sativa  and being found in a place used to smoke cannabis-sativa, contrary to section 48 (1) of the Pharmacy and Drugs Act of 2007.

The matter was prosecuted by Inspector Augusta Sesay.

In another development, Magistrate Bangura also sentenced one Ethelbert Nathaniel Williams to two years imprisonment after he was found guilty of obtaining the sum of Le13 million from one Zainab Kamara for a parcel of land which he failed to deliver.

The accused was arraigned on thirteen counts of obtaining money by false pretence, contrary to section 32(1) of the Larceny Act 1916.

 According to the particulars of offence, the accused on Sunday, 14 October, 2015 obtained the said amount from the complainant by falsely pretending that he had a parcel of land for sale at Brima Drive, Goderich in Freetown.

The matter was prosecuted by Inspector Foday Tarawallie.
