The Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) and stakeholders within the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) will in the next 14 days hold discussions to review objections raised by flag-bearer aspirants in relations to bye-laws governing the conduct of elections in the party.
The move was taken after several aspirants tendered objections to the present laws before the deadline put forward by the PPRC.
Speaking in Bo recently on behalf of a grand alliance of aspirants, Engineer Andrew Keilli expressed fear that the party might not win the general elections in 2018 if it continued to be plagued by internal wrangling.
He added rather ominously that the opposition party might lose many of its members after the flag-bearer convention.
According to the engineer and prolific writer, the party’s executive must do all they could to settle all contradictions and disputes among flagbearer aspirants to any avert embarrassment for the party.
Engineer Keilli continued that the alliance was formed to bring sanity to the party and not to fight any particular aspirant, adding that all the aspirants vying to lead the party in the next presidential election are members of the alliance.
He also notified the people of Bo district that the PPRC would be reviewing and discussing some sections in the party’s constitution because of several objections raised against some of the bye-laws governing the conduct of primaries in the party.
Aspirants present at the meeting were John Oponjo Benjamin, Alpha Timbo, Dr. Kandeh Yumkella and Chief Ernest Ndhominia.
