Residents of Lokomasama Chiefdom in the Port Loko District have expressed gratitude for what they referred to as the good work of Emergency Hospital since it opened its doors to the public.
In an interview, Section Chief Pa-Abdulai Kamara told Concord Times that the hospital provides free medical assistance to residents and has been treating patients involved in motorbike accidents.
He said the community was over the years faced with the challenge of poor medical facility as residents had to travel to Port Loko town or to Freetown to access medical facility.
“With the intervention of the hospital the lives of our brothers and sisters who are mostly involved in serious accidents were saved. We are grateful to them for their tireless effort,” he said, adding that they hope the hospital would continue to serve the community for the benefit of all.
Mohamed Turay, who has just recovered from a bone fracture, described the hospital as a blessing in disguise both to him and the community as they provided free medical treatment to him while he was admitted there.
Programme Coordinator of the Emergency Surgical Centre, Luca Rolla, commended the European Union for funding the project at Lokomasama.
“One of our concerns is to see that we bring medical facilities to the doorsteps of residents of Lokomasama and ease their suffering,” he said.
