Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of the northern region has expressed grave concern over an increase in criminal acts against innocent and harmless children.

AIG FUK Daboh was speaking in the aftermath of news of two missing children, Umaru Turay and Ya Bom Kamara, one of whose dismembered had been retrieved.

He assured though that no stone would be left unturned in ensuring that those involved the inhumane act against innocent children are brought to book.

He said: “The motorbike rider, Alusine Bundu, is in our custody because he is quoted to have demanded the sum of Le500,000 for him to produce the children.”

According to the Regional Crime Officer at the Port Loko Police Station, Detective Superintendent Francis Tengbeh, the case was being treated as a suspected ritual murder which took place at Romeny in the Burreh Kasseh Maconteh chiefdom.

He said the matter was initially handled by the Family Support Unit before it was transferred to his department, after one of the victims, Ya Bom Kamara, was discovered dead in the bush with some parts removed.

“The children were with their grandmother for upbringing after the death of their respective parents,” he said.

According to police report, on the day of the incident the grandmother of the victims, Ya Adama Conteh went to launder some cloths at the village stream and left the two children in care of a neighbour, Ya Bom Sesay.

Ms. Sesay reportedly left for another stream shortly afterwards with the two children, alongside her daughter, Fatu Sesay, and left a message with one Mariatu Kamara that whomever asked after her should be directed to the stream.

The report continued that a man subsequently arrived on a motorbike and was directed to the stream as instructed.

Meanwhile, when Ya Bom Sesay returned to the village, the report says, she could not find her grandchildren and raised alarm.

Both Ya Bom Sesay and the unnamed motorbike rider are in police custody, helping with investigation.
