Former Watford and Sierra Leone international midfielder, Alhassan Bangura, has joined English National League South (the sixth tier league) side St. Albans City.

The Hertfordshire based club confirmed the signing of the 28-year-old on their official web page (www.stalbanscityfc.com) but failed to reveal the financial and other details relating to the deal.

Speaking on the club’s website, manager Harry Wheeler said: “Alhassan is another good addition to the group. He’s experienced, very professional and gives us something different.

“He also has a desire to go back into the professional game and push on, so we have no doubt he will give everything to be at his best for the cause whilst he’s with us.”

Bangura’s move to City comes after the club’s 4-1 defeat to Oxford City last Saturday to leave them at the foot of the league table; and it is an effort by the club to strengthen their squad.

The defensive midfielder made 62 appearances in his four years spell at Vicarage Road with Watford and scored a goal. He then went on to represent Brighton, Blackpool and Qabala [in Azerbaijan] respectively before joining Forest Green Rovers where he made 83 appearances.

Bangura last played for Coventry City on a short-term deal but chose to retire from football after his deal was not renewed.
