England-born striker Francois Gabbidon has declared that he is ready and determined to give of his best for Sierra Leone if given a chance.
Gabbidon, whose father is a renowned lawyer and onetime Ombudsman of Sierra Leone, has helped turned Sutton Common Rovers’ season around with his 21 goals in 29 appearances thus far.
Rovers play in the Combined County League which is eight levels below the Premier League.
“I’m passionate about playing for Sierra Leone. Although I was born and raised in England, my family ancestry is Sierra Leone,” he told footballsierraleone.net
“I follow the national team closely and I’m friends with former players. It will be an honour to represent Sierra Leone.”
The 27-year-old has certainly caught the eye with his goals tally this season, most notably his hat-trick in the last round of the FA Vase, which overturned a 2-0 deficit at Eastbourne Town.
The former Corinthian man is already looking forward to this weekend’s FA Vase cup tie against Bowers Pitsea in the Round of 32.
It was his hat-trick that fired Rovers into the last 32 as they bid for Wembley.
The striker is enjoying his football again after some tough period on the injury table with an ankle injury that needed operations and a whole load of physiotherapy.
“Personally, I am not looking over my shoulder hoping a scout is watching because I just want to enjoy my football, and with Rovers I am certainly doing that.”
