World football governing body FIFA says it is monitoring the new row that has emerged in the country’s football following the dissolution, by the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), of a seven-man committee set-up to “clean-up” the delegates list for the holding of future congresses.
It could be recalled that the SLFA last week issued a statement that the said seven-man committee – which was set-up by FIFA/CAF, SLFA and stakeholders to identify and verify delegates for future SLFA congresses – has been dissolved.
This move, however, was rejected by members of the committee who said the SLFA does not have the power and locus to take such action without the knowledge of the other parties. They insisted on continuing the task that has been given to them.
In a bid to clarify whether the decision of the SLFA was right and what is FIFA’s current position in the new row which has created uncertainty and continues to deepen the crisis that has blighted the progress of the game, Concord Sports contacted the FIFA media department, who replied that they are observing the situation.
It said: “FIFA is monitoring the situation concerning the SLFA. We have no further comment.”
It could be recalled that the seven-man committee was set-up following the visit of Ghana Football Association president, Kwesi Nyantakyi and the FIFA head of Member Associations, Primo Carvaro in August this year.
The two officials held several meetings with all parties, including football stakeholders, the SLFA executive committee members and government before the committee was set-up.
