Ghana eyes Sierra Leone upset

The Ghana national women’s cricket team is aiming to upset their Sierra Leonean opponent when the two sides meet on Saturday in the first edition of the North-West Africa female cricket tournament in Banjul, The Gambia.
The two nations will start their campaign at the MRC Grounds in Fajara and the Ghanaians, who are seen as underdogs, say they hope to create an upset in the soon to commence tournament.
With plans to depart Accra today (Thursday October 29) for Banjul, the Ghanaians played their last friendly match on Wednesday and already, new entrant Jessica Asamoah has been the surprise package for the side.
The 14-year-old batswoman, the youngest member of the Ghanaian team and a pupil of Little Flower Montessori at Dzorwulu, was reported to have displayed zeal and great tenacity to hold the fort for the national team in a friendly match against Touchpoint Dolphins at the Achimota Cricket Oval during the weekend.
While the Ghanaians depart Accra today, the Sierra Leone squad arrived in Banjul yesterday (Wednesday October 28) after travelling from Freetown on Sunday by road via Conakry, Dakar and then to Banjul.
Five countries – Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Mali and host Gambia – will compete for the title in the five days tournament. The competition will run from October 31 to November 4.
