As part of their corporate social responsibility, Choithram International Foundation yesterday presented a one hundred and twenty-five million Leones (Le125,000,000) cheque to the Choithram Scholarship Fund to support two hundred and thirty school going pupils in the country.
Making a statement during the donation, Financial Controller for Choithram Group, Harish Agnani, stated that the regular support from the foundation was made possible by the late Mr. T. Choithram Pagarani, adding that every year funds are allocated to assist needy school going children in line with the late man’s desire to improve the education and health facilities in the country.
He said the foundation has been regularly funding the Choithram Scholarship Fund since 1967 and that plans are underway to upgrade the quality of two schools in the Western Area in line with the government policy to increase the standard of education.
Mr. Agnani further disclosed that Choithram International Foundation also provides funds not only for the day-to-day running of the Choithram Memorial Hospital, but also to procure modern medical equipments to upgrade the facilities at the hospital to international standards.
“Despite the Ebola outbreak, every year the foundation has been providing funds to the Choithram Scholarship Fund. We have also donated foodstuff twice to flood victims at the National Stadium,” he told journalists.
He commended members of the Choithram Scholarship Fund who have been working over the years relentlessly to ensure that the scholarship support is sustained.
Also making a statement, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Choithram Scholarship Fund, Istanley Palmer, applauded the work of the foundation in supporting the development of the country, stating that the money will be made available to the intended beneficiaries.
She added that the assistance is only for primary and secondary school pupils and the Milton Margai School for the Blind, and that only schools that applied will benefit from the fund.
Madam Palmer said the grant would be handed over to the beneficiaries from the 27th to the 29th October at the Youth Center on Garrison Street.
