Salone quartet on score sheet in Europe

October 27, 2015 By Sahr Morris Jr.

Four Sierra Leonean players – Mustapha ‘Haji’ Bangura, Alhaji Kamara, Sullay Kaikai and Ibrahim Kallay – were all on target over the weekend in their respective leagues in Europe.

In the Swedish topflight league (The Allsvenskan), striker Alhaji Kamara’s goal-scoring form continues as he scored twice (for the second week in a row) to help IFK Norrköping secure a 3-1 home win over Halmstad BK. Kamara’s goals came in the 26th and 60th minute as he registered his fifth goal in three matches for Norrköping, who are now just a game away to lifting this year’s Allsvenskan title.

Also in Sweden, IFK Luleå midfielder Ibrahim Kallay was left disappointed as his side suffered a 2-1 defeat to Acropolis; his goal was not enough to rescue his team. The defeat has ruined the chances of the former FC Kallon midfielder’s side of qualifying to the Swedish second tier league, The Superettan.

Again in Sweden, striker Ibrahim ‘Teteh’ Bangura played full time for the relegation threatened Mjällby, who were defeated 4-0 by Värnamo.

In the English First Division, young Sierra Leonean forward Sullay Kaikai registered his fourth goal in as many games for Shrewsbury as they secured their third win in eight home league matches.

Kaikai, who almost gave the home side the lead when his stunning 20-yard volley came off the post, waited for just few minutes after the miss to get his name on the score sheet. He collected a neat pass from teammate Abu Ogogo and then drilled past goalkeeper Aaron McCarey from the edge of the box.

Ogogo doubled Shrewsbury’s lead in the 73rd minute as his effort secured all three points for Micky Mellon’s side who downed Bury by 2-0.

Another Sierra Leonean who enjoyed full time action in the English League Two was Cambridge United’s Alieu Sesay, whose side recorded a 2-3 away win over Yeovil Town.

The final Sierra Leonean goal in Europe came in the Cypriot topflight league as striker Mustapha ‘Haji’ Bangura scored his first goal for Aris in their 1-2 away win over AEL.
