Judge Bami Allan Halloway, presiding at the Freetown High Court, yesterday slammed a Le100 million bail individual bail on seven accused persons charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, larceny and accessory after fact.

The accused persons, Sorie Kamara, Mustapha Kabba, John Sheriff, Abibatu Kamara and three others were represented by Nicky Spencer-Coker of the Legal Aid Board.

State Prosecutor A.V. Koroma alleged that on 28 September, 2014, in Freetown, the seven accused persons conspired with others who are at large and stole properties worth Le150 million from a certain Gavey Rossi.

On the count of larceny, the prosecutor alleged that on the same date and venue the accused persons criminally entered into the premise of the complainant and carted away items worth $1000 dollars.

Making an application for bail on behalf of her client, Ms. Spencer-Coker pleaded with the judge to release her clients, and reminded the judge that the accused persons have been in incarceration since they were arrested in 2014, despite the charges being mere allegations at the moment.

The judge granted the bail but with stringent conditions.

It was unclear though whether the accused persons met the bail condition as we went to press.

The matter will come up again on 20 October, 2015.
