The country has the resources, people, land and everything but yet we are not getting it right because the masses that are suffering the most, rally round corrupt officials instead of those fighting against this menace, says Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission, Francis Ben Kaifala.

While speaking during the officially opening of the commission’s North-West Regional Office in Port Loko, Commissioner Kaifala said even though the country has suffered a lot from corruption, some people still believe nothing can be done about it.

“I want to challenge everyone here that we can do it. The only thing we need as a country is to unite because the corrupt individuals are many. Sadly in Sierra Leone, we have corruption at all levels,” he said.

According to him, the corruption being dealt with has to do with funds or resources meant for the masses, but being siphoned by few rogue people.

He urged the people of Port Loko to join the commission in their quest to reduce if not eradicate corruption in the country as the only winner will be the people.

“We are humans and we are not perfect, but we want to assure you that we will apply the law as fairly as possible, irrespective of where you come from or your political affiliations,” he assured.

He added that in the fight, the ACC sees only one thing which is the progress of Sierra Leone, thus assuring the commission’s readiness to ensure that corrupt individuals are brought to book.

Resident Minister North-West, Haja Isata Abdulai Kamara welcomed the opening of the commission’s new office and assured that people are ready to support the ACC fully.

As pioneer of the new office, she urged the commission not to be bias when going after corrupt individuals as they stand ready to offer their unflinching support at all times.

Also speaking, Deputy Mayor of the Port Loko City Council, Zacharia Bangura, described the opening of the office as a new dawn in the fight in that part of the country.

“The ACC is for all Sierra Leoneans because their mandate stems from the constitution and the act. Let us all compliment the efforts of the commission in this fight by reporting corrupt practices without fear because it will be confidential,” he said
