Western Region Volunteers for the Planned Parenthood Association of Sierra Leone held their annual general on Tuesday, 29 September at the association’s head office on No. 1 Richard Street in Freetown.

The meeting elected a new executive, with chairman Winstanley Bankole-Johnson re-elected. He congratulated the new executive and commended the outgone executive for a job well done in taking the association forward.

He said they were prevented from holding an AGM last year due to the outbreak of the Ebola virus disease.

Chairman Bankole-Johnson congratulated the management and staff of the association for keeping the doors of the offices and clinics open even at the height of the outbreak.

He commended volunteers, who he said were involved in one way or the other in the accomplishment of their activities.

He called for the need to redouble their efforts in recruiting quality volunteers and re-position the branch office in order to benefit from national post-Ebola recovery strategies.

“The expected synergies contemplated between programme managers and the branch could not be leveraged from account of the absence of operational activities accompanying the Ebola scourge. It is my hope however that the year ahead will provide a more conducive and sustainable environment to enable us achieve that goal,” he said.

The new executive members are chairman Winstanley Bankole-Johnson, vice chairman Hassan Fouad Kanu, treasurer Regina Pratt, social secretary Kadiatu Turay, and two ex-officio members, Mr. Edward Saffa and Mrs. Theresa Wilbourne-Davies.
