The University of Sierra Leone has rusticated sixty-five students from the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM) and Fourah Bay College (FBC) respectively for examination malpractices.
The varsity stated in a press statement issued on Friday that it has also expelled 9 students from FBC in respect of 2018/9 academic year examination.
The statement said forty-five students were rusticated for one to two years at FBC with regards to exams malpractices in 2018/9 academic year, while twenty students were rusticated for the same number of years at IPAM in respect of 2017/8 academic year examination.
USL said the decision it has taken was burned out of the approved policy on examination malpractices by the University Court.
Meanwhile, the press statement said victims have the opportunity to appeal to the University Court with immediate effect if they wish to seek further redress.
“This is part of the University’s effort in ensuring transparent and credible award of degrees and diploma,” he said.
However, at his congregational speech on March 25, 2019, at the national stadium in Freetown, Acting Vice Chancellor and Principal of University of Sierra Leone, Professor Joseph A.L Kamara, said in order to reduce cheating during examinations, the university administration has commenced the process of installing CCTV cameras in all the major examination halls in the three campuses of the university.
He expressed optimism that the method put in place would, to some extent, deter cheating during the examination process.
