The Ghana High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, His Excellency Mr. Francis Abakah, paid a working visit to the Ernest Bai Koroma University and called on the Vice Chancellor, Rev, Prof. Edwin J.J. Momoh at the University administration in Magburaka.

The visit offered the Ghana High Commissioner the opportunity to interact with faculty members together with the head of the institution, during which the University authorities expressed the desire to establish links with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, Ghana.

KNUST has a student population of over 42,000, and aside core science disciplines such as Engineering and Medicine, also offers courses in the Social Sciences, Land Administration, Architecture as well as Spatial and Development Planning, among others.

The High Commissioner indicated that there is already a lot ongoing between Ghana and Sierra Leone and a number of state officials have had the opportunity both in the past and in contemporary times to study in Ghana, including KNUST where Spatial Planning and Development in particular, were pursued to the Doctorate level with distinction. The officials are contributing positively to the development of the country.

He applauded the Government for the Free Quality Education programme and indicated that the High Commission is excited about the various initiatives of Government including the provision of a Development Plan and the work of the Anti-Corruption Commission.

He underscored the Mission’s support towards the country’s manpower development.   A preliminary team led by the immediate past Vice Chancellor of KNUST, Professor William Otoo Ellis, has already visited Freetown for this purpose and a formal request for affiliation i.e. Sabbatical, exchange of faculty and students, joint research etc is to be transmitted by the Ernest Bai Koroma University authorities, to be followed with a visit by the Vice Chancellor to KNUST.

The High Commissioner intimated that at the lower level, a similar arrangement has been set in motion to link up Annie Walsh Memorial Girls School with Wesley Girls High School, which is one of the best in Ghana.
