SLP recruits two physically challenged persons

Director of Human Resource at the Sierra Leone Police, Assistant  Inspector General (AIG) of police, Edward Aiah Samadia, has on Tuesday 9th July, 2019 told pressmen that they have recruited two physically challenged persons among the 2018/2019 squad.

He said they wanted to show the world that Sierra Leone Police believed that disability is not inability.

Whilst speaking at a presser at the police headquarters on George Street, the AIG said the force was going to deploy the two physically challenged people in both the technical and administrative sections of the SLP.

He added that the one challenged through the eye sight would be joining the SLP music unit while the one legged amputee would be deployed in the communication unit.

He explained that the SLP had been recruiting disables that have special skills in different areas, and that they had been performing extremely well in their units.

“The Force for Good believes that, disability is not inability which is why we have over the years incorporated physically challenged, but professional in the force. We have various departments in the force that can accommodate them. For instance, we have music section, communication, administration among others,” he said.

Samandia further stated that, over one thousand applicants applied to join the force, and that the recruitment process had gone through the different prescribed stages, ranging from shortlisting, examination, interview, medical and character clearance.

He added that the process was at the final stage at National Civil Registration Authority where proper payroll system was going to be put in place for the new members of the force.
