Director General of the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA), Mohamed Massaquoi, has boasted that they now have trained and qualified staff to effectively handle the work of the institution for positive result.
Director Massaquoi was yesterday speaking during the commencement of a three-day indication and monitoring workshop for NCRA management and senior staff at the Hill Valley Hotel in Freetown.
“I am very pleased that we have been able to put a great team together that can do the work of NCRA effectively. At NCRA, we are just following the dreams of President Julius Maada Bio, to investing in human capital development,” he said.
He added that the three-day workshop was to achieve one of the main goals of the government- building human capacity- thus thanking the European Union for their support to government and NCRA.
Speaking earlier,Team Leader and Civil Registration Expert at the European Union, Genene Bizuneh, said NCRA has gone through transformation with new staff and that the three-day workshop will help the new staff to know more about their work.
He said the workshop was also an experience sharing for management and staff of NCRA and its partners.
NCRA was established by an Act of parliament to provide compulsory registration of citizens and non-citizen in Sierra Leone as well as provides registrants with a multi-purpose identity card.
The institution is also charged with the responsibility to register all civil status events occurring in the country, including registration of births, adoptions, marriages, divorce and deaths.
However, in 2017 NRCA and the National Electoral Commission jointly conducted a nationwide voter and civil registration to serve as a base for the establishment of the country’s national civil registration and setting up a permanent registration centre for the continuous registration of important events in the country.
