Minister Mohamed Raman Swarray addressing Kenema residents
Minister of Information and Communications has urged parents in the eastern district town of Kenema to strictly monitor their children against examination malpractices, adding that the All Peoples Congress (APC) led administration allowed some teachers, students and examination officials to be involved in such illegal practise.
Mohamed Raman Swarray made the statement while distributing Ramadan gifts including food and cash to Muslims at the Kenema Central Mosque and major Ataya bases across Kenema.
Swarray observed that it was sadden to note that students organised protest and destroyed government and private properties after some of their colleagues were arrested as a result of examination malpractices.
At the Kenema Central Mosque, Minister Swarray told residents that government was determined to promote free quality education for Sierra Leonean kids, but however noted that government was not happy that some students went on the rampage as a result of the actions by the security forces.
“As minister of information, I want to use this opportunity to explain more about the commitment of President Maada Bio to residents of Kenema and the entire county. The president believes that we cannot move forward with development process without building the human capacity of the country, hence he introduced the free and quality education for our Chiefdom. All of us have to work towards achieving that by ensuring that our children are closely monitored and allowed to study at home so that they can pass their examinations,” he admonished.
He claimed that the previous All People’s Congress administration failed to prevent examination malpractices; therefore it was a problem “we inherited but we are determined to address it with your support.”
The minister also addressed various youth groups about government effort in providing quality jobs for Sierra Leoneans, adding that President Maada Bio has again built the image of the country and investors were now ready to come and invest in the country.
“We are aware of the challenges in the energy sector especially for the cities of Bo and Kenema. I want to assure you that we will do our best to finally resolve that problem,” he concluded.
