Barber remanded for penetration girl, 17

Alfred Thoronka, a 19 years old barber, was yesterday (Thursday 23rd May) remanded at the Male Correctional Centre by Magistrate Abdul Sheriff presiding at  the Pademba road Court No.3 for allegedly penetrating a 17 year-old girl.

The accused is currently before the Magistrates’ Court on one count of sexual penetration of a child contrary to Section 19 of the Sexual Offense Act No.12 of 2012.

Police Prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent Yeanoh Koroma, alleges that the accused person on Friday, 17th May, 2019, Off American Embassy, IMATT in Freetown, sexually penetrated a child below the age of 18 to wit 17 years old.

In her testimony, the 17 year- old victim recognised the accused as her boyfriend and recalled on the day of the alleged incident.

She told the court that on the day after school, the accused asked her for sex and  that she removed her pants herself, while the accused  also removed his and they had sex.

She further that someone in their compound who knew about their relationship later told her mother that she was in love with the accused and that they have had sex.

She said her mother later asked her as whether it was true that she had sexual intercourse with the accused and that she replied in the affirmative.

She added that her mother later reported the matter to the Akon Police station where they were issued with a police medical request form to see a doctor at the Princess Christian Maternity Hospital for treatment.

She said after the medical examination, they returned with the endorsed medical report and made statement.

Defense Counsel E. Bewie Esq applied for bail on behalf of his client, noting that his client has reliable sureties that would stand in his recognizance and that if granted bail, he would not jump bail because he has fixed address.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Sheriff remanded the accused and adjourned the matter to Tuesday, 28th May.
