Sierra Leone striker, Ibrahim ‘Teteh’ Bangura, has broken his silence on the reason why he chose to sign a short-term deal with Swedish Superettan side Mjallby AIF, instead of the Allsvenskan (the topflight) league side IFK Norrköping.

The 25-year-old, whose career was hampered last season by a knee injury, was invited by IFK Norrköping in July for a week’s trial with an option to revive his career. After the successful trial, the club announced they were pleased with the player’s performance but both parties could not agree on a deal, and no reasons were given.

The striker said: “It felt good and I scored many goals during trainings; and after playing closed door matches against Jönköping Södra and Mjallby things were good for me.”

However, IFK Norrköping coach Janne Andersson was obvious when he had a dialogue with Bangura.

“Coach Janne Andersson was genuine. He was very honest and told me that he wanted me to sign a deal, but honesty was a reality,” said the Sierra Leone international. “IFK really has a good team and great striker. I know it had been difficult to play there as a fourth striker. Janne was honest and told me the situation from the beginning.”
