Accused committed to High Court for sexual penetration

Magistrate Abdul Sheriff of the Siaka Steven Street courts on Wednesday 6th March committed a sexual penetration matter involving one Allieu Sillah, 18, to the High Court for trial after four prosecution witnesses testified against the accused.

The accused person had been before Magistrate Sheriff on a preliminary investigation for allegedly penetrating a child, contrary to Section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act No.12 of 2012.

Police Prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent Moses Moore, had told the court that the accused person had sexual intercourse with the seven -year-old girl on Friday 6th April 2018, at No.9 Reader Street in Freetown.

While committing the matter to the High Court, Magistrate Sheriff said: “Having gone through the evidence so far presented in the preliminary investigations, I am satisfied that the accused person has a case to answer. I therefore commit this matter to the High Court of justice for further trial.”

Meanwhile, Magistrate Sheriff granted bail to the accused person in the sum of Le40million with two sureties in like sum and must produce national identity cards.

He ordered that the bail must be approved by the Deputy Master and Registrar.
