Justice Alhaji Momoh Jah Stevens on Thursday, 17th January, 2019, convicted and sentenced one Mohamed Bangura to five years imprisonment for robbery.
Bangura was before the court on two counts of Robbery and Larceny contrary to Section 23 (2) of the Larceny Act of 1916 as repealed and replaced by Section 2 of the Imperial Statutes of (criminal Law) adoption (amending) No 16 of 1971.
According to the indictment, the convict on 17th December,2017, in Freetown robbed one Fatmata Kamara one ZTE mobile valued one million five hundred thousand Leones.
Justice Stevens said his decision was influenced by the accused persons’ confessional statement to the police and the corroborating evidence from the complainant.
The accused pleaded for mercy, which Justice Stevens considered when handing down judgement.
The judge added that the five years jailed term was inclusive of the time he had spent on remand during the trial.
In another development, Justices Stevens jailed one James Baba Kamara to four years imprisonment.
Kamara was convicted on the offence of burglary contrary to Section 25 (1) of the Larceny act 1916.
According to the indictment, the convict on 5th April, 2018, in Freetown entered in the dwelling house of Osman Alie with intent to steal and stole therein one Bicycle value Le250,000 and one mobile phone value Le800,000, property of the complainant.
