Sierra Leone and former A.C Milan midfielder, Rodney Strasser, has joined Italian Serie D side Villafranca Veronese for the rest of the season.
The 28-year-old defensive midfielder, who has been a free agent since his contract with Serie A side Genoa ended in 2017, will now feature with the Serie D club after months of training with them.
Villafranca Veronese officially confirmed that they have registered Strasser on both the club’s website and also their Facebook page and statements from the DG Cannoletta reads: “Rodney has been training with the team for a few months. He has integrated well both at the group level and the game and the other day he came to me and told me of his intention to stay.”
“I am sure that Rodney with his personality and quality in the middle of the field will be able to be a driver and also contributes to the growth of the quality level of the team and a point of reference also for the youngest.”
The former FC Kallon and NK Zagreb midfield enforcer was in Freetown on holidays, but has returned to Italy and continues his work with the rest of the team.
Strasser has had a difficult time during his days with AC Milan despite his outstanding performance at the Milan youth system.
In his five years spell with the club, he was shipped out on loan to Lecce during the 2011-12 seasons and in 2013 to Parma, where he only made two appearances.
On 27 July 2013, he joined Genoa on a permanent deal for €3.5 million, as part of the deal that moved Kevin Constant over to the San Siro in a co-ownership resolution in favour of the Milan club. Strasser was later loaned out to Serie B club, Reggina in August 2013.
He also had a spell with Livorno before joining the Croatian side, NK Zagreb. He also had loan spell to Lupa Castelli Romani in the Italian Pro League.
