Pujehun District Council is currently facing serious constraints in resources to undertake projects for the development of the district, according to the council’s Development Planning Officer Dalton Charles.
Dalton said that for them to receive 50% of their allocated budget from the central government to run the council has been difficult.
He said remittances from the central government come in bits and pieces, adding that for this year they have received less than 30% of their budget allocation.
“We have a lot of challenges for the past two years as a council. We have agreed as a council that the way forward is to embark on investment promotion,” he said.
Because council is the highest development entity in the Pujehun district, Mr. Dalton stated that they have a clear vision to be self-sustainable by undertaking mini projects to move the district to another level.
He noted that they have positioned themselves to run the district as a business by doing things that would raise funds to solve critical problems.
He added that resources received from the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education are not enough to rehabilitate a single school, and as such, they need money to do the rest.
“What we were receiving from our donor partners is no longer forthcoming for the past one year but we cannot sit by as a council and watch things going out of the way without solving them. We have agreed to develop mini projects to raise some revenue to ensure development of the district,” he disclosed.
The development planning officer stated that they envisage constructing market stalls, cold rooms and to rehabilitate some markets.
He maintained that they have also challenged themselves to keep the environment conducive for investors to come and invest in the district.
