Magistrate Abdul Sheriff, presiding at the Siaka Stevens Street Magistrates’ Court No.7, Tuesday, 9th October, sentenced one Michael Mohamed Kanneh to eighteen months imprisonment or an alternative fine of Le1 million, after he pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of small arms.

The accused was arraigned before Magistrate Sheriff on one count of possession of small arms without license, contrary to Section 11(1) of the Arms and Ammunition Act No.9 of 2012.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector Sahr Kurku, alleges that on 20th September 2018, at Kandi Farm, off Kamayama, Lumley, in Freetown, the convict was found in possession of a Starus pistol and seven live rounds of ammunition without license.

Earlier, defence counsel RAD Jones Esq. in plea mitigation on behalf of the defendant pleaded with the magistrate to temper justice with mercy, stating that the convict did not waste the court’s time in answering to the charge.

Meanwhile, it remains unclear whether the accused paid his fine to avoid the jail term.
