Ansu Fofanah, 32, was yesterday remanded at the male correctional centre in Freetown by Magistrate Abdul Sheriff, presiding at the Freetown Magistrates’ Court No.7, for alleged murder.

The accused made his second appearance before Magistrate Sheriff on one count of murder contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.

Police Prosecutor, Sergeant 8534 Sesay G, alleges that the accused on Sunday, 9th September 2018, at No.55 Gassama Street, Calaba Town, Freetown, murdered three-month-old Lamin Francis Fullah.

Testifying in court, Komeh Sheriff, mother of the deceased, recognised the accused as his former husband and recalled the date in question.

Sheriff said that on the fateful day, around 2p.m., she was sitting together with her elder sister breastfeeding the baby when the accused arrived and asked after his children.

She testified that the accused left but returned later and met them sitting at the same location.

According to her, the accused asked that he wanted to have a chat with her.

“I told him to wait so that I can give the child to my sister. Unfortunately, he refused and started fighting with me, trying to take the child from me. During the scuffle, the hand of the child got broken. He shoved me on the floor and hit the child thrice on a big stone nearby,” she narrated.

She narrated that she reported the matter at the Calaba Town Police Station, where they obtained statement from her.

The complainant told the court that the accused is not the father of the deceased. The accused though was not represented by a lawyer.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Sheriff adjourned the matter to Monday, 15th October.
