Foday Jusu Yambasu, 42, a stone miner, was yesterday remanded at the male correctional centre in Freetown pending his alleged murder trial.

Prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police Moses Moore alleges that the accused person on Sunday, 9th September 2018, at Kobo II, Goderich, Freetown, maliciously murdered one Sorie Kamara.

Detective Sergeant 1362 Brewa K.S, attached at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Adonkia  Police Station, is the investigator who charged the matter to court.

He recognised the accused person and recalled that one Sorie Kamara (deceased) and his family came to the station and reported a case of wounding with intent on the date in question.

He said a medical request form was issued to the deceased for examination and treatment at the Connaught hospital.

The police testified that on the same date, statement was obtained from the accused person.

He further testified that on 11th September 2018, the police received information from the deceased’s son (Musa Kamara) that his father had died at the Connaught hospital.

He added that when they went to the hospital, they discovered the remains of the deceased, which was later conveyed to the Connaught hospital mortuary for post-mortem.

“Upon receiving that information, I and the Scene-of-Crime Officers went to the scene. At the scene, the community people gave us one cutlass and iron-rod which they said the accused allegedly used to hit the deceased on his head. The accused was arrested in the process,’’ he narrated.

He continued that he obtained statements from witnesses and the accused person, adding that on the 22nd September 2018, he and the Scene-of-Crime officers witnessed the post-mortem examination conducted by Dr. Simeon Owizz Koroma.

He said at the end of the process, the result about the cause of death was handed over to the officers.

“On the 24th September 2018, I and Detective Sergeant 8495 Tarawaille U. charged the accused person with the offense of murder contrary to law. The charge statement was witnessed by Detective Sergeant 8495 Tarawaille U., while I signed as the recorder,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Abdul Sheriff, presiding at the Freetown Magistrates’ Court No7, remanded the accused and adjourned the matter to 15th October.
